Enjoy and benefit from keynote addresses designed to open the ends of your thinking about what is possible for you and your organization. The addresses will offer discussions of a broad range of topics, including leadership, crisis management, change management, and the ability of the individual to change the world. They will complement the educational tracks, offering a broader view to contrast with the practice-specific sessions.

Unfortunately, the Honorable Rudolph W. Giuliani has had to cancel his appearance at the AFP International Conference.  In his place, record-breaking cyclist and cancer survivor Lance Armstrong will give the keynote address.

The Power of Preparation, Perseverance, and Perspective"

If scripted by Hollywood, the story would be dismissed as trite melodrama:  A deadly disease strikes a promising athlete.  Despite desperately thin odds, he manages not only to beat the affliction but also to return to the sport and win its top prize.  Unbelievable, except it's true. His experience made him a part of a cancer community, and motivated him to unleash the same passion and drive he does in bike races to the fight against cancer. Lance's presentation is one of hope and inspiration, as he continues to be a leader and activist on behalf of cancer survivors around the world.  The Lance Armstrong Foundation has become among the most influential organizations of its kinds and today provides practical information and tools people need to battle cancer and live strong through education, advocacy, public health programs and research grants.

Maria Echaveste - “A Shared Vision Can Create Community"

In her speech, Maria Echeveste shares her thoughts on how to create a shared vision for the future that supports existing staff and donors, motivates and generates new supporters, and engages new stakeholders. She discusses how to take our vision and mission statements and translate them into presentations that are exciting and motivating, yet substantive and not just sound bites. She explores the connections between organizations and to the work of individuals, and how to leverage the increasing desire for community and connection as an opportunity to expand the role of the organization within the community.
